Current Obsession Wednesday: Maniac (Show)

What: A genre-bending scifi about two people participating in a drug trial for people with mental health issues. It is set in a 1980’s futuristic type world where computers are advanced enough to talk to you, but not enough to not take up a whole room.

The wonderful 80s cold war era world that they built is the perfect place for this story. It is set in a world where technology can fix anything, and life is supposed to be the easiest it has ever been. So it would only make sense that someone would try to fix every mental health issue with just three pills. In a time and place that is all about the easy way out, we (humanity) face a problem that there is no easy fix for.
Emma Stone and Jonah Hill both play broken people who struggle with mental illness. Through out the show they are repeatedly thrown together and they have to learn to trust each other. This show is about love, acceptance, grief, and mental health.
